Leaves

I've been as busy as a beaver getting mulch on the garden and mowing up leaves as fast as I can. Also getting things ready for my big trip to hiwaii. I picked four buckets of green tomatoes and a huge sackful of peppers of all kinds yesterday. Then we put down another roll of Hay down on the garden (Ruth Stout style). Got some rain. Also trying to get rid of the fire ants, which are popping up everywhere.......got to run now

Nice day

Stayed home most of today just chilling out. Felt good not to spend so much time in the car. Did run down to Coolidge to the Walmart for a minute. Spent sometime on my new I -pad I got a few days ago. I really like it. Raw eating is still out the window. Nothing exciting or interesting to write about today, except we did walk for an hour..........later

Olive Mill

We went to the olive mill in queen creek today. Took the tour, which consisted of a talk while sitting outside among the olive trees . it was pretty nice out there. When she finished her talk we had samples of some olives and I walked around the grove and got seeds from several of the olive trees. She said they had a lot of different varieties and didn't use any olives off the ground so I felt alright about picking up a few. I'm going to try to start some from seed when I get home. I planted an olive tree this spring , but it would be fun (and cheaper) to start some from seed. I'm planning to try to start things from seeds and cuttings because buying all the plants I want to put in is starting to get pretty exspensive. Also it's fun. I've had a little success with that so far. Before we went to the olive mill we went to sweet tomatoes for lunch. I'd have to say it was a pretty good day. ...........later peeps

Free olives

I forgot to mention my freebie I got today. Picked a bunch of olives off some trees we spotted in downtown Florence az.. I'm going to process them myself, which I have done before with pretty good results. I'll let you know how it turns out .......later

It's been a long time

I can't believe it's been so long since I wrote in my blog. Time flies when you having fun. Living the dream, that's what I've been doing. (my cousin Greg told me that at a family reunion so I told him I would have to steal that.) I have been back and fourth to Arizona several times. Working on my food forest permaculture project in Alabama. Making some fairly good progress with that. Maybe I'll post some pictures soon. Staying fairly raw. Probably 70-80 percent most of the time. Except when I'm traveling. Can't seem to get a handle on that. Evan with the best intentions and preparation, I can't seem to stick to it when traveling. I'm not going to worry about it though. I can get back on track easy enough when I get home. I have had a lot of practice. Anyway there's new stuff happening. This winter I'll be volunteering in hawii for three months at a health retreat. I'm looking forward to that and starting my blog back up. I need to record what I'm doing because I forget to much. I'm in Arizona now finishing up stuff here. Then back to Alabama for awhile, then on to hawii. I've had two gardening seasons since I last wrote in my blog. Both seasons went pretty good. Had some failures and some succes. Enough fo now........maybe it won't be 2 years before I write again........later raw peeps.

leaving

i'll be on my way back to arizona tomorrow. i'm taking the long way around and going up to utah first. our collards and turnip greens are just now getting big enough to eat so i've been eating all i can of them, both raw and cooked for two days. and if you think you don't like them, man, you don't know what you're missing. i'm sorry to be leaving them. hopefully some of my relatives will come and get them. the young collards are really good in fruit smoothies. if you've never grown them give them a try. they are really mild flavored when they are young and fresh picked......bye for now

busy summer

well it's been awhile since i've blogged anything. i've had a busy summer. i've also been a little bit lazy. turns out i like reading other peoples blogs more than i like writing in mine. we had a really good garden this year. lots of tomatoes, okra, peppers, corn, peas, and beans. put a lot of it in the freezer. planted cherry trees, bluberry bushes, and blackberry vines and one more pomagranate tree this year. just got a ginkgo tree at the flea market today to plant. we planted two mulberry trees last fall, one is doing pretty well, the other one doesn't look to good but maybe it will make it. we also put up a porch swing so i had to spend plenty of time in that. (when i say we, i don't mean i actually dug any holes, my significant other did all that, but i did supervise the actual digging of said holes. and i'm sure he appreciated my help.) been doing high raw. (with a little junky food thrown in every so often.) ate tons of watermelon and other fruit. there's a weekly flea market close to where i live that i get most of my food from in the summer. it's a lot cheaper than the grocery store. we go on wednesdays. it's my favorite day of the week. it's also time for me to head back to arizona. time flies when you're having fun. but the temp here is dropping and i don't like being cold, so here's hoping for a nice warm winter in az........later raw peeps
